Station Link: travel tips

Sydney Metro is just around the corner, bringing with it a new generation of world-class fast, safe and reliable trains. With the new Sydney Metro you’ll be able to just turn up and go with a train every four minutes during peak hours.

But first, to upgrade the network, we need to close the railway line between Epping and Chatswood. For around seven months, the line will be upgraded with platform screen doors at stations, new communications and signalling systems, and new fire, life and safety systems. During this time, we’ll also be running tests of the new driverless trains ahead of the Sydney Metro Northwest, which will open in the second quarter of next year.

To help make your travel as easy as possible, we are giving you 120 brand new, pink, air-conditioned Station Link buses. These started running in place of trains on Sunday 30 September.

How does it work?

Station Link buses will depart from a number of locations including Epping, Chatswood and St. Leonards.

To board Station Link buses, you’ll need to use your Opal card, so don’t forget to keep it topped up prior to getting onboard.

Don’t worry too much if you need more help because we’ll have plenty of customer service staff out and about throughout the day in the Macquarie Park area. Simply look out for the pink shirts! To help make sure you hop on the right bus we’ll also have bus marshals assisting – you won’t miss them they’re in fluoro yellow.

Planning your trip

Marg Prendergast, our Coordinator General has also got a few tips to help you on your way, especially during those busy peak times.

Travelling from the south of Eastwood on the T1 Northern Line?

Hop on board the SL5 travelling directly from Eastwood to Macquarie University, then Macquarie Park.

If you need another option, then take SL1 from Epping, Macquarie University, Macquarie Park, North Ryde to Chatswood.

At night, SL5 is another good option to consider as it may get that bit faster going from Macquarie Park to Eastwood.

Travelling from north of Beecroft on the T1 Northern Line?

The bus for you is SL3! It will take you from Beecroft, Macquarie University, Macquarie Park and to St Leonards.

Travelling from south/east of the Sydney Harbour Bridge?

In the morning, your best bet is to board a T1 Northern Line service to St Leonards.

Then hop off and board a SL4 from the interchange that will take you from St Leonards, Macquarie Park to Macquarie University.

SL4 is also the best bus route if travelling from stations south of St Leonards.
